ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations which sets standards for civil aviation as well as coordinates its development to enhance safety and efficiency​

ICAO aims to foster and support the steady growth of air transport all over the world. Moreover ICAO coordinates global cooperation in all aspects of international civil navigation including international transportation.​

ICAO also defines airport codes for all airports around the world. ICAO codes are used to identify aviation facilities such as weather stations, International Flight Service Stations or Area Control Centers. ICAO codes are used by air traffic control and airline operations such as flight planning.

Objectives of IANS within ICAO participation:

  • WTSG – to develop requirements for wake vortex flight safety systems

EUROCAE is a European nonprofit organization established over 50 ago for the development of worldwide recognized industry standards for aviation.

EUROCAE Members are airborne and ground equipment manufacturers, service providers, regulatory bodies, national and international aviation authorities and users.

EUROCAE works together with RTCA and SAE in the United States. EUROCAE documents are also produced in the context of the applicable EASA and ICAO standards and are coherent with existing ARINC specifications to ensure global interoperability.

Objectives of IANS within EUROCAE participation:

  • WG-41 –A-SMGCS

  • WG-75 –Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance Systems

  • WG-76 –AIS/MET Data Link services

  • WG-79 –Enhanced and Synthetic Vision System (SVS)

  • WG-100 –Remote and Virtual Towers (RVT)

  • WG-101 –Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting Systems

  • WG-104 –SWIM Services

  • WG-105 –Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)

  • WG-106 –Electronic Flight Bag Software Applications

  • WG-109 –Runway Weather Information Systems

  • WG-111 –Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM)

  • WG-115 –Counter UAS (C-UAS)

RTCA is a US nonprofit corporation, that develops recommendations based on consensus in the sphere of communication systems, navigation, monitoring and surveillance, as well as air traffic management.

RTCA functions as the Federal Advisory Committee. The US Federal Aviation Administration applies its recommendations as the basis for policies and for decision making.

RTCA target groups manage questions of transition to the global navigation satellite system and its implementation strategies, transition to digital communication, implementation and certification of the “Free Flight” project.​

RTCA's objectives include but are not limited to:

  • ensuring safety and reliability of airborne systems;

  • developing minimum operational performance requirements for document-specific systems;

  • developing guidelines for regulatory authorities;

  • providing administrative and logistics resources to enable teamwork among the world-wide aviation community (e.g. International Civil Aviation Organization and the International Telecommunication Union and others).

Objectives of IANS within RTCA participation:

  • SС-206 –Aeronautical Information and MET Data Link

  • SC-228 –Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)

  • SC-230 –Airborne Weather Detection Systems

  • SC-231 –Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS)

SAE International is the global association, which unites over 128.000 engineers and technical experts in aerospace sphere and in the field of production, maintenance and transport control. The main field of specialization of SAE International includes constant improvement of knowledge and development of standards based on consensus taken on a voluntary basis.​

This international organization of scientists, engineers and practitioners founded in 1916 was created to improve mobile machinery and increase level of system knowledge.​

Objectives of SAE:

  • to unite students, engineers, practitioners and companies into integrated global network

  • to attract, manage and distribute information about changes by means of development and implementation of standards

  • SAE is the leader of global standardization

Objectives of IANS within SAE participation:

  • G10WV - development of standards and recommended practices of human-machine interfaces of wake vortex flight safety system

The International Cooperation on Airport Surveillance (ICAS) is a group of Airports, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and Eurocontrol.

The scope of the ICAS group is to support Airports, ANSPs and other organisations in the implementation, integration and exploitation of Airport Surveillance Systems in an Airport environment, covering all phases of the ground movement.

The group also dialogs with the Regulatory Authorities, Research and Development Institutes (R&D) and the industry.

Currently the focus is on all aspects of A-SMGCS and supporting systems. This is seen as the most promising approach to support a safe and efficient traffic at Airports.

In ICAS Project Managers, Engineers and Air Traffic and Apron Controllers meet and discuss A-SMGCS issues. The Members exchange experiences with different technologies, procedures and infrastructural constraints. This makes ICAS the biggest know-how pool of operating A-SMGCS worldwide.

Besides IANS there are more than 40 representatives from ANSPs, EUROCONTROL and Airport Authorities in ICAS, covering 31 countries, like SAAB, INDRA, THALES, SEARIDGE, TERMA.

Objectives of IANS within ICAS participation:

  • Experience exchange in the development and operation of A-SMGCS as well as a joint discussion and search for solutions to non-standard problems of aerodrome surveillance
